Compatibility and dependencies
Check these requirements before importing Grid Toolkit or when Package Manager reports a missing dependency.
Unity version support
Grid Toolkit 1.0 supports Unity 6 and later (Unity 6+). Use the Unity 6 editor version selected for your project; no specific Unity 6 patch is required.
Compatibility checks span multiple Unity 6 release lines to cover editor and API changes rather than lock installation to one update stream. Keep Grid Toolkit updated when moving a project to a newer Unity release.
Required Unity package
Grid Toolkit requires com.unity.ugui in the range [2.0.0, 3.0.0). Package Manager normally
resolves this dependency during import.
If Unity reports missing UnityEngine.UI, Image, Graphic, or VertexHelper types, confirm that
uGUI 2.x is installed and resolved. The included Canvas renderer is provided by
GridCanvasBoardRenderer.
Optional Sample dependencies
The core toolkit does not require Input System or Universal Render Pipeline. The shipped Samples require both:
| Package | Supported range | Why Samples use it |
|---|---|---|
com.unity.inputsystem |
[1.8.1, 2.0.0) |
Sample controls and pointer input |
com.unity.render-pipelines.universal |
[17.0.1, 18.0.0) |
Sample materials, shaders, lighting, and presentation |
Samples also require a Universal Renderer as the active default renderer. Their intended presentation does not target the URP 2D Renderer. Open Anyway is useful for inspecting a scene, but configuring the Universal Renderer is required for the intended result.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Check |
|---|---|
| Package Manager cannot resolve uGUI | Install a compatible uGUI 2.x package. |
| Grid Toolkit works but Sample scripts are unavailable | Install compatible Input System and URP packages. |
| A Sample is pink, dark, or visually incomplete | Make a Universal Renderer the active default renderer. |
